Hey Kids! You're probably all watching the VMAs...not naming any names
but Lady G*** is creepy and yet so entertaining, and Beyonce and Taylor
Swift are amazing!

Anyways.

First, hope ya'll (especially the freshies) enjoyed Thursday night's
special LOBSTER Family Dinner! nom nom, thanks to all the guest meal
providers and those who signed in off-campus kids, very much
appreciated! Also, thank you to all the peeps that came out to the
Asian Reception and Balik Picnic!!! AND Special Shoutouts to Cat
Manibog and Cookie Puno for doing an amazing job on General Meeting
pictures/flyer/poster...you two are truly wonderful, amazing,
fantastic, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious (if thats how you spell
it). THANK YOU!!!

Now down to business. Hope you're all ready for a fun-filled and

Fall Expo : Wednesday, Sept. 16
Where: GSU 2nd floor, Metcalf Ballroom
When: 3-7 PM
Come check out the FSA table at the Fall activities fair in the Metcalf
Ballrooom in the GSU! Since it is Wednesday, we would usually have
family dinner, but due to this fantastico activities fair... just bring
snacks or food from the food court and come say hi and stuff your faces
with us! Not only stuffing of faces will be going on, but you also
have a chance to watch a tinikling performance between 5-6:30 PM at the
expo. So if you like eating, and watching people dance in clapping
sticks...WELL LUCKY FOR YOU BECAUSE THAT WILL BE GOING ON AT FALL EXPO!

Intramurals : "Homecoming Football Game" : Wednesday, Sept. 16
Where: Nickerson Field
When: 6:30 PM
The first football game of the year! Come support FSA's Little Brown
Filipino Warriors get BIG and crush another team! Instead of our
traditional Family Dinner as mentioned above, you guys should go to
Fall Expo, shove your face with food, THEN go to the Homecoming
Football Game. Yeah-yuh! Even better, bring your food to the game and
cheer us on!

Northeastern University Barkada's General Meeting : Thursday, Sept. 17
Where: St. Mary's BU shuttle stop (corner of St. Mary's street)
When: 6:30 PM
A bunch of FSAers will be traveling over to NU together for their first
General Meeting. It'll be a great way to connect with NU's Filipino
club, Barkada, so definitely come through! We'll be meeting at the BU
Shuttle St. Mary's stop at 6:30 to go all together. Try to not be
late- get there a little early so we are on timmmmmme (aka no filipino
time).

First General Meeting : Friday, Sept. 18
Where: Warren Cinema Room
When: 7-9 PM
FSA's First General Meeting is coming your way this Friday at Warren
Towers' Cinema room, located past the C Elevators! Get excited, if you
haven't already accepted the event on Facebook, DO IT NOW! This is the
perfect time to really get to know the club, club members, and your
culture. There will be a super funny video shown, games, and very
important information on the culture club. What's better than family,
friends, and culture??? NOTHING. Definitely jump on this band wagon,
otherwise you ain't a cool a kid....so definitely plan on coming to
BUFSA's First GENERAL MEETING. Hollaaaaaaa. It's gonna be MONSTERRRR.

Kamayan Showcase : Saturday, Sept. 19

When: 3 PM
"Eat with your hands" Showcase (Kamayan Showcase) this Sunday at SAO
gym! Come get a taste of our annual fall dance show! Choreographers
will be presenting parts of their dance and their chosen music piece.
You will be able to sign up for whichever dance you would like to
participate in. And if you don't like to dance...come anyways and
support! Get excited kids...it's your chance to shine on stage with
other stars. (lol...wow...cool)

Scavenger Hunt : Sunday, Sept. 20
Where: meet in front of Marsh Chapel (BU Central)
When: 2-5 PM
Come get to know fellow FSAers and your own Boston University Campus at
our first Scavenger Hunt! Wanna skip the gym? Wanna make friends?
Wanna know BU's campus like the back of your hand? Wanna have some
crazy fun? Then JOIN THE SCAVENGER HUNT because you will fulfill all
those dreams/ goals. :D

HEY EVERYONE! Welcome to all the incoming freshmen and welcome back to
everyone coming back to BU =) Hope everyone had an awesome summer and
had a safe trip back to campus. We had a great time seeing yall at
SPLASH on Nickerson Field, Monday afternoon and we are really, REALLY
excited about the upcoming year. We had such an awesome time meeting
all the new freshmen and we can't wait for you all to become a part of
our club and learn more about this group of crazyyyyyy Filipino's (and
non-Filipino's bc you DON'T have to be Filipino to join FSA =] !) on
BU's campus. BUFSA has a bunch of fun, crazy, and new events lined up
for you all and we are sure it is going to be an unforgettable year!

This year BUFSA will be launching a very special YouTube channel called
boofTV. Where we will be taking you all behind the scenes for our
biggest events, posting random funny BUFSA shenanigans, and reaching
out to the wider Filipino community.

*FIRST FAMILY DINNER- Wednesday, September 2 @ 6:30 PM in the GSU Backcourt*
Our first event of the year is FAMILY DINNER TODAY (Wednesday,
September 2nd)! We wanted to kickoff the year by having dinner with you
guys, our "FamilySA", @ 6:30 PM in the Backcourt of the GSU! Family
Dinner is an FSA tradition in which our club/family meets up once a
week usually in the dining hall or GSU to eat, socialize, meet the rest
of our club, chill, relax, and enjoy each other's company. If you are a
freshman, it is the perfect opportunity to meet other freshmen and
members of our club, and also to learn more about BUFSA. If you are a
returning member, it'll be a great opportunity to catch up with the
peeps you haven't seen all summer long =) But in anycase, come join us
for dinner! We can't wait to see yall!

*BUFSA GOES TO THE DRIVE-IN MOVIE!- Friday, September 4 /Dinner Meet-up
in Super88 @ 5:30 PM before!*
This Friday, BUFSA will be attending BU Programming Council's "movie
double-feature" of I Love You, Man and The Proposal on Nickerson Field!
Before we go to this event, we are all meeting up before hand for
dinner at Super88 which is on the Packard's Corner T-Stop at 5:30 PM!
Don't be late! :) We'll be reserving a bunch of tables for you guys so
just look for a group of Filipino's and long tables! After dinner we
will all be going straight to the double feature. So bring your
blankets, comfy hoodies or whatever you may want to bring to the movie
with you to Super88 =)

*BALIK PICNIC/"WELCOME BACK PICNIC". Sunday, September 13 from 12-3PM
in the Howard Thurman Center (basement of the GSU)* BUFSA will be
collaborating with the Chinese Students Association, Hong Kong Students
Association, Taiwanese-American Students Association, and the
Vietnamese Students Association in bringing cultural flavors to the
HTC. We will be serving FREE FOOD AND BEVERAGES! So if you are home
sick already and missing the taste of Filipino food in your mouth OR if
you want to try any of these asian flavors for the first time feel free
to come and BRING YOUR FRIENDS because this event is open to anyone and
everyone! The more the merrier =)

We will be shoving our faces with 10,000 different kinds of sandwiches, chips, fruits, drinks, and more yum-yums! We will also be playing games such as softball, or lazy-ing around, or just lovin' on one another, so come and eat and play! JOYOUS.

On another note, we hope that everyone enjoyed their fun-filled ISA weekend! Thank you again to everyone for all of their efforts during ISA: The World Is One. It was an incredible evening and the audience really enjoyed the show, so kudos to you! We know everyone is super busy, but know that BUFSA still has some great activities in store for you...

1. Family dinner is tomorrow, Wednesday, April 22nd and will be held at BU Central at 6:30pm. Don't be late! We'll have pizza and magic mic - so no need to bring anything but yourselves!

2. We're excited to announce that we'll be having our second-ever BUFSA Retreat! Come join us for a night of friendly competition in crafts, sports and recreation. It will be held on the evening of Friday, April 24th until the morning of Saturday, April 25th at the Student Activities Center on 1 University Road. If you plan on attending, please email bufsa@bu.edu with your BU ID# because it's important we let SAO know who will be attending that night. HAPPY ISA WEEK BOOFSA!

It's finally here. All those weeks of sweat, side cramps, and chesticle-slaps are behind us and we are in the home stretch, aka:

COUNTDOWN TO ISA: THIS SATURDAY

Let's get straight to business, because believe us, there's a LOT of it.

Note: Open the attachment labeled "Dancers and Clappers List" at the bottom of this email. We've assigned people to clapper duties for various dances; you must be at the practices that you are assigned to clap for. No exceptions.

Tuesday, April 14th - PSY B37
EXTRA FREE SPACE from 7-11 pm! Dancers, if you'd like to practice some more, you've got four hours and plenty of space. Choreographers, this is extra time to meet with your dancers to work on formations, transitions, clean moves, etc. Use it!

Wednesday, April 15th - Tsai Lobby
7-8 pm - Goodies (John Prestosa/Annamarie Francisco/Steven Ho)
8-8:30 pm - Popular (Tim Ramos)
8:30-9 pm - I Gotcha (Juan Castro)

9-10 pm - Senior Dance
10 pm - Igorot Suite (Lumagen, Bangga, Salip)**

Thursday, April 16th - Tsai Lobby
7-8 pm - Hot N' Cold (Mo)
8-10 pm - Rural Suite (Tinikling, Kuratsa, Subli)**

Final Dance Practice on Friday, April 17th - GSU Alley (6pm-12am)
We will be dedicating this entire practice to doing full run-throughs of all modern and traditional sets; therefore, your attendance is mandatory. We will be checking off your names promptly at 6 pm as you arrive. Dress in comfortable clothes and bring lots of snacks to keep you hyped! Costume fittings for traditional dances will take place during this practice; try to wear something underneath that will allow you to change quickly without a bathroom - ie. shorts, spandex, wifebeaters, etc. We also strongly encourage you to bring your costumes for the modern sets (see Costumes Section below) so you can see if you will be able to dance comfortably and full-out in your hot attire.

Ticket Sales
Got friends and family that want to enjoy a good meal and watch you onstage? Pick up your tickets at our table at the GSU Link Monday through Friday 10-5 pm!

Pre-Sale: $8
At the Door: $10

You also have the option to reserve tickets that your friends and family can pick up at the Tsai Box Office on Saturday night. Our only condition is that they must collect them by 6:30 pm (half an hour before show starts); we will begin releasing reserved tickets to people in line at that time.

Music Cuts

If you're interested in getting a copy of any of the traditional or modern mixes to practice on your own with, get at your dance coords and we'll happily send you the file.

Dancer Dues
If you are dancing, you must pay $15 to participate in ISA 2009. This covers your ticket, dinner, and the dope FSA t-shirt we will be rocking for the closing modern set all at a heavily discounted price. Please turn your money in to your dance coords the Final Practice on Friday, April 17th. No exceptions.

Boogie Bots Workshop
Stop by Fusion's table at the GSU Link Monday through Friday 10-5 pm to pick up tickets to take classes from MTV's America's Best Dance Crew's Boogie Bots!

Concerning Saturday, ISA 2009;
We will be sending you guys a finalized time sheet of everybody's tech times, rehearsal times, and performance times soon, but we will also prep you guys at Friday's practice with all the info you could need and then some!

LASTLY, COSTUMES: HEARTS AND BOOFSA

For our opening modern set, we will be wearing solid, bright-colored t-shirts spraypainted with "I <3 NV," "I <3 FL," or whichever state or country your hometown is. Wear full-length black bottoms with bright (preferably somewhat matching with your t-shirt color) shoes. Bring your t-shirt to every practice you go to until we spraypaint it. Do not save it for Friday because that will be mad-crazy.

For our closing set, we will wearing our amazing custom-made FSA t-shirts! Wear them however you'd like (cardigans, hoop earrings, shorts, leggings, socks, hoodies, bandanas, skirts, bling, etc.) as long as you stick with the color scheme (yellow, black, and blue) and the audience can see the BUFSA logo on the front!

STOP, PAUSE, BREATHE.

This week is going to be mind-blowingly busy with dance practices (be sure rest up, drink lots of fluids, and keep your muscles warm) but we promise you that this weekend will be one to remember. We are very proud of everybody for their dedication and never-ending enthusiasm. Thank you so much for giving everything your all and we can't wait to share the stage with you on Saturday.

ELECTION UPDATES!!!!!!!!!

As you all know, FSA's eboard elections are coming on Monday, April 20^th in the Terrace Lounge (2^nd floor GSU!) at 12:30pm. Oh man, biggggggg deal. But please note, there has been an extension in submitting a letter of intent to run for eboard to Thursday, April 16^th. Howeverr, that just means that we will not be taking any open on the spot nominations the day of the elections. Sorrrrry. So if you are serious about running, turn in your shizz by Thursday!!! Please submit your LOI's explaining a short little something about yourself, and what position(s) you intend on running for to either Mo mortega@bu.edu, or Rob supanova@bu.edu. Being on ebizzle is amazing and we suggest that everyone runs to be part of such a great experience and team!!!

After all the craziness of ISA has subsided (or not), be prepped for some major family bonding

time and sleep-overage with plenty a game, foods, trivia, cultural awakenings and much more

REX NAVARETTE COMES TO BU!!!!!!!

On Thursday, April 30^th from 7-9pm in Morse auditorium, Filipino-American comedian Rex Navarette is performing a special set for the Boston University community! Come laugh and have a great time. More info on ticket sales, etc… to come!

ISA PRACTICEE/INFO AND UPDATES!!!!!!

I: Practice-Oh geebus, less than a week 'til the longest running cultural show at BU!! Be prepared to practice everyday this week, starting with today, Monday April 13^th from 7-9pm in the Tsai Lobby for the Muslim suite (which includes katsu, pangalay, and singkil). So if you are in any of these dances, you MUST be in attendance!!! IF you serrrrrrriously can't make it, you gotta give a good excuse to the DC's before they kick your booty!!

Ib: Family dinner practice- Family dinner location is TBD depending on where we are holding practice, but save the date/time for Wednesday, April 15th at around 7pm and bring some grub to wherever we let you knowww.

II: Dancer dues-Also, everyone who plans on dancing has to submit $15 dancer dues to the DC's. This fee includes the hawt tee shirt, food, and partaking in the hottest show everrrrrrrr!

III: Call times-Anyways, hope you're all prepared for spending some long quality time with your fellow boofsa members on FRIDAY, the 17^th for FULL RUN-THROUGHS of all the dances, modern and traditional, from 6pm-12am in the GSU ALLEY. Wear some comfy clothes, bring your bright shirt to decorate and get ready to hunker-down for some hard work and fun times with some cool kats.

Thenn on Saturday, April 18^th,, be prepared to wake up bright and early and be at the TSAI Center at 8am SHARP!! DON'T BE LATEEE or we will call you and yell at you. OH yah and you gotta be free for the rest of the day after that for full run-throughs of the entire showww. So bring all your costume stuff/makeup/shizzly/shoes/etc.. with you so you don't gotta sneak away during potential practice time during the day!! WOOOT AHH get pumped the day we've been slaving away and working SOO HARD FOR WILL ALL PAY OFF!! Just gotta stay focused and power through!!!

IV: Tickets-Tickets go on sale at the GSU link, starting today, Monday, April 13, 2009 from 10-5pm everyday until Friday. Tickets are $8 in advance, and $10 at the door. So get emm' while they're hot and promote like cuhrazyy!! Yuzzah we expect to sell out so goo and spend some mula or make your friends/family do so!

We hope everyone had a guhhhhhreat weeek! ISA Pump up Rally was great.. D1 Sosyal was a blast.. mini Spanish suite tour twas amazing.. practices are looking incredible!

We are now ONLY 11 DAYS, 8 hours, and 40 minutes until our big show ISA: THE WORLD IS ONE and we have lots and lots of FSA in store for you until then. Here's the low down for the week and some dates in the future to look forward to! ready ready ready?! FAMILY DINNER/EXTRA PRACTICE DINNER/WERK CUZ ISA IS ONLY 11 DAYS DINNER (4/08/09 from 6:30 P.M. - 10 P.M.)

Family Dinner this week will be held in B43 in the basement of the PSYCHOLOGY building on Cummington st. We will be holding extra practice during family dinner so we can look EXTRA HOT at our show in less than 2 weeks. Please get your food before coming! If you aren't dancing in any of the scheduled practices come, hang out/cheel, play!

All-University Relay for Life at Harvard University (4/10-4/11)

Come support BUFSA and District 1 as come together to help save lives and raise money for cancer victims and celebrate the strength of cancer survivors! Nothing's better than having fun while supporting a great cause! Relay for Life is essentially a giant sleepover- BOOFSA will be meeting/leaving from the TSAI center lobby at 9 P.M. right after Friday night practice and will travel to Harvard together. Once we get there we will be meetings up with our D1 friends and walk around the track, play games, enjoy some free food, and chill with the fun peeps we love. BUFSA will travel back to BU together at 6 A.M. Saturday morning. You get a free shirt with registration! If you haven't already please sign up for the BUFSA team on the Relay for Life Website. If you are not able to sign up online, you can sign up on location Friday night.

EASTER SUNDAY MASS at St. Paul's Church in Cambridge =) (4/12/09)

Per BUFSA tradition, we will be be attending Easter Sunday Mass in Cambridge, MA! Mass is scheduled for 9 A.M. so we will be meeting at the BU EAST T-Stop at 7:30 A.M. =) so we can all travel there together as one big fam bam. Easter Sunday Mass is extra special in this beautiful beautiful church and the mass also features some awesome music from a boy's choir. We will have easter lunch/brunch together after mass! yayyyy for BOOFSA family fun on Easter Sunday =)

ISA Dance Practice week of 4/6-4/12

COUNTDOWN TO ISA: 12 Days!!!

As we are in crunch time! pow pow!, it is time to really get things set and ready for the big show. As you all ready know, practices are MANDATORY and by this point it is up to choreographers and DCs discretion to cut whoever no matter who you are from any dance. With that said, you MUST be at practice 10 minutes before your assigned practice, stretched out and prepared to follow your choreographers instructions. They have all worked hard to make this show as best as it can be, and we are not tolerating tardiness or disruptions during practice. Us DCs will be very strict with time and without any valid excuse or a phone call will take measures appropriate to make sure time will be used most efficiently. ALL PRACTICES WILL BE TO START ON TIME and END ON TIME.

Save the date: FRIDAY APRIL, 17TH from 6pm-12am
Remember, this is the annual night before practice (as we had during Kamayan). Please save this date and be expected to be there the whole time. There will be a sign-in sheet and sign-out sheet distributed during that day so that we know when everyone arrives and leaves so that we can account for everyone. Modern Set 1: I <3 T's. We will be spray painting bright colored shirts repping your home state, country. Black colored bottoms, and bright colored shoes

Happy April Fools Day!

Firstly, give a big round of applause to the Spanish suite folks for putting on amazing performance at the Barakat show in Cambridge last Sunday. Amazing! Secondly,

COUNTDOWN TO ISA: 18 DAYS

It's April already, say what?! Again, every practice is mandatory so please come to practice or risk being cut from the dance, at each choreographer's discretion. We have all worked really hard to learn the dances so the next two weeks will be primarily dedicated to staging/cleaning up/preparing to put the sets together during the mandatory Night-Before Practice on Sunday, April 17th @ GSU Alley 6pm-12am (save the date, kiddos!). If you have any questions, comments, conflicts, or qualms with any practices, please let us know way in advance.

WHAT UP KIDS

Hope your weekend's were fun, fabulous and filled with lots of FSA lovin'! Props to the Spanish Suite Crew +entourage for throwing it down at the Cambridge Cultural Center this past weekend. You guys looked great out there! Here's the 411 on this week's events.. there's quite a lot happening so be sure to keep up!

The "Everything ISA" Fam Din: Family dinner will be held on Wednesday, April 1st in the Howard Thurman Center from 7-9pm. Grab some food then come downstairs to hang with us! We'll be viewing the ISA 2009 updated trailer and watching videos from past ISAs. We'll also be revealing this year's theme, tshirt and flyer designs! OoOoOhhHhHh SNAP. Other importante information that might come in handy will be shared as well. After the ISA presentation, committee meetings for those of you who expressed interest in helping Eboard out, or for those of you who wanted to find out more about how you can help will take place. Join the Facebook event, it's coming.

Ad Journal Extension: Time to make this ISA a little more memorable! Ask your family and friends to place an ad for you in this year's ad journal (think of it as a really huge program). This is perfect for big/little loving, seniors, classes (2012, 2011, 010, 09!) friends and family love. We've extended the date for the deadline to Tuesday, April 7th. The LBFW Dominate the Fields: Join the Little Brown Filipino Warriors as they work up a sweat and hit some balls. The game is Thursday, April 2nd at 7:30pm at Nickerson Field. The game starts at 7:30, if you're playing please be there by 6:30pm. NOTE: There will be softball practice tomorrow, Tuesday, March 31st 4pm at Dexter. Questiones? Stage Presence: Also this Thursday, April 2nd - Theo Gonzalves will be giving a talk at Boston College based on his book of interviews with Filipino American performing artists. Gettin' Busy on A Boat: We hope everyone was able to reserve their tickets for an event we've all be waiting for: The D1 Soysal! oW oW! In order to get a hold of your reserved ticket you must bring your $25 to Family Dinner (or find Justine and give the money to her). She has the tickets and you will only be given your ticket once you pay. Remember, it's $25/ticket and an additional $15 for those of us who are 21+ and will be enjoying the comforts of an open bar. OPEN BAR! Time to roll deep and look hot. We all love boats, just ask T-Pain. Boarding time is at Friday, April 3rd at 8:30pm so be there or don't be there. The boat will leave without you, even if you have a ticket. SUCKS! FSA does Good with Relay for Life: Join FSA's team in the right against cancer! We'll be up all night walking the track, eating food, beating Barkada at tug-of-war and raising money to make a difference in people's lives. Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society's overnight inspirational event that honors survivors, caregivers, and those lost to the disease. It's also a fundraiser. It takes money for the American Cancer Society to do all it does -- fund cutting-edge cancer research, provide support programs, educate the public on ways to reduce their cancer risk, and advocate for laws that help reduce cancer incidence and guarantee screenings and cancer treatments for the less well off. Teams of people from around the area camp out at these events and take turns walking or running around the track, with one representative from each team on the track at all times during the night. Relay for Life will be held on Friday, April 10th and go into the morning of Saturday, April 11th. It will be held at Harvard's Indoor track. Keep a look out for FSA's Facebook event for more information on what to do and how to register. It's gonna be a lot of fun, so we hope you can join us!

Elections! Already?: Please see the attached form to review the available positions for BUFSA's Filipino Executive Board. If there is a position that interests you, kindly send your letter of intent to Michelle Ortega at mortega@bu.edu AND Rob Antonio at supanova@bu.edu by 12pm on Monday, April 13th. This letter will put you on the ballot for your desired position. Please note that Elections will take place on Monday, April 20th between 12pm and 3pm so please keep this time slot open. ISA: The World Is One! Tickets go on sale at the GSU Link starting Monday, April 13th and will be sold all through the week. We will be there selling tickets from 10am-4pm.Tickets will be $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Dinner is included and will be served at 6:00pm for audience members, doors open at 6:30pm and the show begins at 7:00pm. Be sure to promote the event like crazy and tell your friends about it! Let's make this year the best and have a sold out show. Practices are going well and dances are lookin' caliente so be sure to keep a look out for your weekly dance email from your DCs! ISA Dance Practice 3/26-3/29

3 practice weeks from now is ISA!!! It's time to get our act together. Practice from now on is mandatory, no questions asked. Choreographers have been working hard to put the dances together so please respect their time and be attentive, on time, and ready to learn. If you are going to be late to a practice let the DC know asap as any lateness will be counted as a absence. From here on out no missed practice will be tolerated and will be up to the choreographer's discretion to cut dancers or not. Please just come to practice. ISA requires a lot of practice, hard work, and patience.

Hey there beautiful boofs!

Hope you all have doing fine adjusting back to school stuff after spring break (womp, womp sad face)!
It's also crunch time for ISA (OMG, less than a month! Get excited!) so we really need everyone to work together right now to make this year's performance the best one yet.

1) ISA: The World is One 2009 - 4/18/09 (OMG it's almost here)

Be sure to check your emails about dance practices and such.
Practices are mandatory. If you cannot make it to your remaining practices, you risk being cut from dances. And, as usual, please arrive on time (if not early) so choreographers get their full hour's worth.
Adjournals are due on April 1st.
If you still would like to join a committee, there are still plenty of spots (especially in "Day of, Volunteering" hint hint)

2) FIND, Inc 2009 Spring Conference: 3/27/09 - 3/29/09

Just a reminder to those of you who are planning to attend the event, the conference is this weekend! It's at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA from Fridays 7:00 P.M. to Sunday 12:00 P.M. Get pumped! If you have any other questions, feel free to contact us.

Hi Boofs!

We are officially in crunch mode! This means that practices from here on out will be treated as mandatory; we only have four weekends left to finish teaching and reviewing both traditional and modern dances, so - to be fair to your choreographers as well as your peers - if you cannot make it to your remaining practices, you risk being cut from dances. Hopefully everyone enjoyed their well deserved spring break and that everyone is in good spirits, safe and sober, well for the most part.

When we get back its going to be crunch time for everyone and everything but fortunately BUFSA is here to keep everyone mellow yellow.

INTRAMURALISM:

THE LITTLE BROWN FILIPINO WARRIORS are on their softball campaign. Everyone is welcome to play or to watch, but if you come and watch you might as well play, cause lets face it you can just watch the game as you play right? Left? We have a game this THURSDAY MAR 19 AT 630 AT NICKERSON FIELD. Be there!

TALENTISM:

Are you amazing? Are you Juan/Rob? Prove it! MAR 20 6-8PM Jacob Sleeper Auditorium (day after the softball game) (JSA is in the basement of the CGS building) (is our TALENT SHOW! So if you want to sing, dance, lip sync, dance sync, make a skit, make a speech, play softball [why dint you go to the game the day before!?], anything that you want to showcase let Marie know (mrodz@bu.edu) and you can have a time slot and be amazing for everyone) (wait why was that all in parenthesis? why is this?)

BARKADAISM:

The day after that MAR 21 is NU BARKADA's first cultural show from 530-800PM at Northeastern so lets support our filipinos and be amazing!

What it do boofs?! Hope everyone enjoyed the snow day! And hope everyone isn't too swamped with midterms and such. Before we all go and party it up during Spring Break, here's what's happening with BUFSA this week:

Family Dinner – Wednesday, March 4 at 6:30p – Warren Dining Hall

Chance to eats with your fellow boofs before Spring Break! Meet by the security booth and we'll invade the dining hall together. As usual, guest meals appreciated for the upperclassmen.

Softball Intramural Game – Thursday, March 5 at 6:30p – Nickerson Field (West Campus)

Holliston High School (located west of Boston) is having a Diversity Week and our own BUFSA will be there! One day during the week of March 23-27, members from e-board will go to Holliston to talk about our culture and club. It's a great opportunity to show how much FSA means to us and our culture. Everyone is welcome to join us going to Holliston! If you are interested, contact e-board and we will give you the details.

Good Morrow Everyone,

We hope that midterms have not been too bad yet and hey spring break is only a week and a half away. Boys gone wild!

Now for the good shtuff. (in order of appearance)

It is not what we take up, but what we give up, that makes us rich.

In lieu of regular family dinner we will be having family dinner at the Howard Thurman Center, and will be watching a short film entitled "Silent Sacrifices" a story about Filipino-American culture. Afterwards we will have a discussion, just so we can have some SUBSTANCE, for our family dinner. And by substance I mean FREE PIZZA! But no really this will be a good time to get together and really talk about something we can all relate to. SO 630 HOWARD THURMAN CENTER TOMORROW!

This THURSDAY we will be honored by having Tony Meloto come to Boston University and speak to us. Mr. Meloto is the founder of GK BUFSA's service project where people build character and communities for themselves. He is an amzaing man that started this great organization to bring hope and light to those who need it. It is this THURSDAY from 5-630 at the GSU conferance auditorium on the second floor.

Also it is a REQUIREMENT for everyone to dance a traditional dance if you want to dance a modern (No exceptions) there are a lot of great traditional dances we are having so please sign up for one by contacting the DC's.

Last thing STICK DUTY, yes it sucks, but we have all done it, actually we haven't because people are not doing it. Think of it as a right of passage for FSA dance dance, because everyone that has come before you has one time or another had to awkwardly carry the sticks to practice. So please if you are assigned do not forget.

As customary we will be making T-shirts for ISA, and the design is open to the club so if you got some skillz making T's (or belly shirts) send us your design.

LBFW won their last basketball game last night, thanks to stellar playing and amazing coaching! Our next basketball game is MAR 2 at 9PM, so if you want to cheer us on to victory, it is at FITREC 2nd Floor.

SOFTBALL(s) is starting and our first game is Mar 5 at 630 at Nickerson Field. We welcome anyone to come and play because we could always use them. So if you are interested shoot us an email and get ready to get big.

It was so great to see all of you guys having fun and taking an interest not only in Filipino Culture, but also in one of BUFSA's biggest events. Getcha Head in the Game: Sorry for the High School Musical reference. The Little Brown Filipino Warriors, the most awesome intramural team at BU, has an upcoming basketball game next Monday, February 16th in the Fit-Rec. Come to play in the game or show your support. Contact Juan for more information about our intramural sports this semester. It's lots of fun. Do it!

Item #3: JSA Eating Contest

When: The Japanese Student Association will be hosting a food-eating contest in the SAO gym on Sunday, March 22nd.
Say What?: FSA plans to participate in the contest. To enter, simply get into teams of 5 people. Each team will eat through rounds of food form different ethnic groups. It only cost $10 to register a team (so $2 for each individual). Do it!

Item #4: Family Dinner!

This week's family dinner will be held in Warren Towers. Remember, Family Dinner is every Wednesday, 6:30 P.M.

It's official. We're kicking off the road to our annual culture show, "ISA: The World Is One," this Sunday, February 8th 4-7 pm @ Sargent Gym (1 University Road, located to the left of the GSU) with the following dance schedule:

Happy February!

Thank you to everyone who made it to our Welcome Back General Meeting last Friday! Eboard was delighted to see all the many new and old faces! Hopefully you learned some new things about you FamilySA (besides how SIckNasttyyy we are) and that you also took with you some good memories with friends ("single ladies, pelvic thrust, shimmy down, egyptian!").

Speaking of dance moves, if you were not able to attend the ISA Dance Showcase on Saturday to sign up for dances and would like to dance with FSA, just keep a look out for emails from your booty bumpin DCs (Rivs & Zurn) about upcoming dance practice this weekend! Come to any dance practice and let DC's know what dances you would like to sign up for. And as always, dance practice is silly fun, but also worth all the hard work you put into it to put on an amazing show!

So! make sure you save the date for ISA: The World Is One! – Sat, April 18th @ Tsai Performance Center.
Also if anyone is interested in being part of the planning of ISA, there will a couple planning committees headed by eboard members. Let us know if you would be interested and we'll give you the LowDown (yA hEaRd?!!).

Can't get enough FSA lovin? Well there's plenty of FSA love to go around. So much in fact that we would like to extend this year's love auction to include our neighboring D1 schools, NU Barkada and PSBC. Get excited for this one of a kind D1 mixer coming up this Feb!

This inspirational movie is meant to create a dialogue within the club about Filipino-related topics and create conversation about cultural experiences in general . Greetings Boofs!

Way to kick off the new year right! Big props to everybody who attended the GK Dance-A-Thon this past Saturday and of course the massive heads at family dinner. But get ready kiddos, this semester will be even bigger/huger/that'swhatshesaid than the last! Let's get down to the details:

Item #1: LITTLE BROWN FILIPINO WARRIORS, GAME 1

Still riding high off the volleyball championship title last year (and the best effort award for football) the Little Browns look to strike again this semester at intramural basketball! First game is today, Monday, Jan. 26th at Fitrec @ 8 pm, so whether you're interested in playing (special shout-out to the female ballers!) or coming to cheer for your all-stars, contact Capt. Juan "The Don" Castro at jucastro@bu.edu for all the nitty-gritty.

Item #2: SPRING EXPO

Curious about the club? Anxious to know about everything we have planned this semester? Want to watch us perform Pandaango? Stop by our table at the Spring Expo this Tuesday, Jan. 27th at the GSU Metcalf Ballroom (located on the 2nd floor) from 3-7 pm.

Item #3: FIRST GENERAL MEETING OF THE SPRING

If you loved last semester's first general meeting of the semester, get ready for this one! Join us this Friday, Jan. 30th at 1019 Babcock Street @ 7 pm to learn more about upcoming events, reconnect with old faces, and have fun with new ones. More games, more videos, more free sweatshirts!

Item #4: ISA "THE WORLD IS ONE" SHOWCASE

Our biggest cultural show of the year, ISA: "The World is One," is fast approaching in April. Are you going to be in it? You better be! We have an extraordinary line-up of traditional and modern dances just your size. Come check them out at the ISA Showcase this Saturday, Jan. 28th at the GSU Alley @ 1 pm sharp (located in the basement level by BU Central) and sign-up if you didn't get a chance to at the General Meeting! Someone once said the subject heading of an email will either deter or encourage someone to open an email. LIKE DUH? Anyway, I hope it did the latter because I made a rhyme, ergo I am cool. Moving forward, welcome back and happy 2009 BUFSA! Hope you enjoyed the long weekend and that your week is off to a great start. Here's what you need to know, yo:

* Family dinner - Wednesday, January 21st

We all need to eat, so why not do it together?! This week,we invade Warren Towers! Meet past the guard booth by the couches at 6:30 or look for us in the Dining Hall. Guest meals are always appreciated for your fellow friends that live off-campus.

* Barkada's GK Dance-a-thon - Saturday, January 24th

Northeastern's Barkada is having a dance marathon to benefit the Gawad Kalinga (GK) organization this Saturday. Sign-in begins at 2:30 and the event will being at 3pm. We hope that you will join Team BUFSA in supporting Barkada and their service project. Your attendance and any donation you can make on Saturday will help raise money for a non-profit foundation that strives to alleviate poverty and poor living conditions in the Philippines and other countries.Plus we'll get to booty bump and that will be funzo.
FUN FACT: Join Team BUFSA beforehand to prep for the event! Meet at the Student Activities Center (1 University Road across from the GSU Backcourt) to decorate t-shirts, have lunch and hang out with friends then head over to NU's event together via public transportation. We'll be in the Delaware Room on the 3rd floor of SAO (right by the dance studio) For those of you who don't want to decorate a t-shirt, please rock any FSA gear if you have it. We'll be leaving for Northeastern at 2PM so make sure you're at the SAC by then! If there are any questions, let your Eboard know.

The following announcement is from Carlos Lu: We at the Asian Studies Initiative seek to help provide opportunities for students of BU (and by extension the greater Boston Area) to learn more about Asian Cultures. Through our "Tea Time" talks with professors, cross-cultural events, and educational conferences we hope to give students the chance to pursue careers in the growing economy of the Asian world. Unfortunately we cannot do any of these without funding. To that end we are holding a "Dough Raiser" at Uno's this Thursday, January 18th, all day. All you need to do is show up with one of our fliers, available all over campus at at our Facebook event located below and order a meal. YO FSA how you doin!

We'd just like to wish everyone the best of luck on Finals and thank you for a wonderful semester. We hope you had fun!

We rocked the boat AND the stage together, cooked and ate together, did good work for GK together, became first time, but not last time intramural co-rec volleyball champs together, danced and laughed together...

And now it's time to study together! Womp, womp.

MUGARFEST has begun and I think we're on day 3? Go find your fellow FSA'ers on the 2nd floor of Mugar. Studying isn't as painful when you have friends to do it with or people to distract you from what you were actually supposed to be doing in the first place. Joke lang! We get our work done on the realz. It's a good time, so check it out if anything! 2nd floor of Mugar. Do it. K go.

CHOREO or BOREO? I don't know what boreo means or why I said it but ISA: The World Is One is coming up and fast! It'll be here before you know it so make sure to save the date: April 18, 2009, 7pm at the Tsai Performance Center. Get at Auburn "Zurn" Santo at ausanto@bu.edu and/or Christian "Rivs" Rivera at r1vera26@bu.edu with your choice of song and dance if you're interested in choreographing. We'll be having sign ups for both modern and traditional dances at our first meeting back from break so get pumped! Awww yeeee.

BUFSA MODERN! an idea that is slowly but surely in the making.. BUFSA Modern will be another means of expression for FSA. As you know, FSA is so much more than a cultural group on campus. We dance, we sing, we cook, we eat, we play sports: We are a Family and one with many passions. So if you're looking for a creative outlet between now and ISA, wanting to hone your dance skills and make them better or just plain excited to dance and do nothing else then contact Michelle "MO" Ortega at mortega@bu.edu. We'll be having our first workshop/meeting at the beginning of next semester so be sure to keep a look out for that! Chyeah boy. Chyeah! Chyeah!

Woooooo last week of classes! HOLLLLLLLLLLA!

However; this means it's almost time for FSA fun for this semester to end! But don't worry, mad ish coming up this week alone so get reaaaaaady!

FAMILY DINNER!
Last fam din of the sem, be there!! Wednesday, Dec. 10, 6:30pm, GSU backcourt! Yay to food and friends!

CHRISTMAS POTLUCK!!
YESS to even MORE food! But presents too?!! On Thursday, Dec. 11th in the HoJo study lounge at 7pm, we will be eating tons of great food and doing a little secret santa-ing! Each class should have a discussion thread on FB on what they should bring! Upperclassmen/'09/'10, please bring entrees. Sophies/'11, desserts and appetizers, Froshh/'12 -drinks, napkins, utensils, cups, etc..!
      As for Secret Santa stuff, just buy anything under $5 to bring as a gift to be exchanged that night. Rules will be explained later!
Please remember to bring food and your gift to participate in the the eating/gift exchange. No food and/or gift = sucks for you.
      Also during our xmas potluck we will be having Freshman REP elections!! Although the deadline has passed for sending in letters of intent for the position, there will still be open nominations that night! Please be prepared to give a 2 min. speech and answer questions on why you should be the newest addition to ebizzle!
       Attire is dress to impress, so aka look hot&classy! Sweeeeeeeeet!

If all these events just really aren't enough to satisfy your craving for some FSA lovin', don't worry! As is tradition, every finals period, many many FSA members, being the studious, yet social beings we are, take up a whole section of Mugar library and get crackin on those books and murdering finals! (Along with sleeping under tables, bringing enough food/energy drinks to feed a small army, dancing on tables, making buses, taking photoshoots, and much more!) You just have to see it for yourself to find out what all hype is about!! So go!

Well after a week filled with labs, quizzes and most importantly a week off of Kamayan I finally found time to send this to you (as promised). Sometimes for me and probably for you, things that get emotional and are important to you are best said in writing. With that said here I go. (sorry if i make no sense, i wrote this quick and based on what was on my mind)
First off and this has been said way too much and is a complete understatement, I am very proud with each and everyone. You gave it your all out there and represented our school with the utmost pride. I have a short story I want to share with you and I sort of alluded to it in one of my DC emails. The story begins at a Filipino function in Philadelphia with my family when all of a sudden a Filipino professor from LaSalle Univ. comes up to me and asked me where I went to school. I told this professor (who appeared to be in her 40's) that I went to BU and her eyes lit up and she couldn't help but ask me if I was involved with the Filipino club. Of course I said yes. Immediately after (and I assumed she automatically knew I was a dancer since she has seen me perform with my parent's dance troupe) she asked if we won again. Confused at first I then realized she was talking about Kamayan (for all of you that are not familiar, Kamayan used to be a competition in which we won every year which is why it is not anymore). It is a weird place to end but the conversation continues on from there and the rest is history. The point I am trying to make is that you are part of something bigger than the confines of just being part FSA. I know a lot is said of pamilya but also as a part of BUFSA you present yourselves as representing your heritage here in the States and people near and far from Boston respect BUFSA for that. There is a lot of talk about who won etc. (and we all know we did) but it is not all about that or whose dances looked the best. It is about the Kamayan experience. It is about getting signed into dorms 15 mins late to practice, getting guest meals for upperclassmen, being on stick duty, listening to speeches and cry fests, and waking up ridiculously early to get to Metcalf Ballroom, meeting new and old friends who might end up being your lifelong friends you contact when you're old. Who cares if you messed up on stage (as I did in Juan's dance..sorry) but I knew I was still having fun with the people who appreciates this club as much as I do and helped make this Kamayan experience a memorable one. It is the whole experience that makes Kamayan, well, Kamayan and makes our group so special. I would like to thank all of you whole helped out in anyway to help foster the sense of pamilya embedded in our heritage and club mission statement.
This week I really struggled to find the reason why I didn't cry during Kamayan. Not because I have no emotions or that I have a cold heart, but that I was just trying to take in the newness that each Kamayan brings- meeting new friends, trying to remember the dance moves, watch the other schools tear up the dance floor, freshmen showing so much enthusiasm and passion for the club. All of this is the product of classes and classes before us passing down the tradition and passion for FSA and Kamayan. Take the newness of this experience and cherish it.

And now to my call outs:

To the class of 2012. You guys are UNBELIVABLE. You guys do not get as much credit as you deserve. You guys respect everyone in the club and are starting to get that swagger I don't see all too often. Come on, none of you complained when you were on stick duty. You guys danced your heart out and I see soo much potential in you guys. You are exactly what this club needs as you are the future and define what it means to be members of our club. This was your first Kamayan and you will remember it forever.

To the class of 2011. Yet again you continue to amaze me. You all looked hot out there and have soooooo much energy. Even though your class diminished in size, your presence has spoken louder this year than last. I hope you guys don't lose that. Keep the passion and love for BUFSA alive.

To 2010. I love you guys. Each and everyone of you have conducted yourselves with such dignity and pride needed to be leaders of a club. I see a leader in everyone of you and you do a great job in dancing as well.

To 09. Wow soo much love in the air. You guys...wow soo tight knit. Not even just here but with the other school's 09ers. Why can't all the classes be like that!!!! You guys are the foundation of our club and no matter how small your class is, you will always be the leaders of the club and will be the ones that lead our club into the future. Nobody can take that fact away. I think enough is said how this is the last of this and last of that. I however like to look at this experience as a number of firsts. This is the first time I danced in Metcalf. This Kamayan marked the first time turo-turo was early. This was the first time we had the D1 stretch. But the most important first for this Kamayan was that this was the first time I realized I am going to miss you guys so effin much.

Sorry for the length of this email. I told you this was going to be like 10 pages.

Finally 2 more shout outs.

Eboard. I am honored and distinguished to work with each and everyone of you. You all are deserving of your positions and putting on Kamayan is representative of that. You all are hard working and to be honest I am sort of jealous because you all seem like you are doing soo much more than I am. I thank you for all the support and this is just the beginning of many amazing things to come.

My Tinikling birds. I will be straightforward in saying I have never been more honored to teach a dance than this year's tinikling. You all gave your hearts out and were dedicated from the beginning to make it work. We all knew it was going to come together. Through the falls and split pants I really wish the whole club could come to practice to see the teamwork and support we gave each other. Again thanks for a memorable tinikling.

To close I don't know if any of you noticed but right before Showtime I tried to give everyone a hug and said good luck (sorry if I missed you and shame on you if you weren't in the room). Let me explain the brief background to that. Back in high school football before every game there were 2 instances when we gave each other hugs 1) instead of shaking hands during the sign of peace we gave hugs and 2) in the locker rooms the captains would walk around and give every player a hug and say good luck. From freshman through junior year when I got those hugs I knew I was ready for the game because the hug represented that the captains had trust in me that I wouldn't let him or the team down and ultimately I would give my best effort. Finally when I got the chance as a senior and last Saturday I hoped you would understand that, I too had the trust in each and every one of you that you would dance your heart out and have fun doing so.

Kamayan 2008: My Love, My Sweat....(as promised!)

Well after a week filled with labs, quizzes and most importantly a week off of Kamayan I finally found time to send this to you (as promised). Sometimes for me and probably for you, things that get emotional and are important to you are best said in writing. With that said here I go. (sorry if i make no sense, i wrote this quick and based on what was on my mind)
First off and this has been said way too much and is a complete understatement, I am very proud with each and everyone. You gave it your all out there and represented our school with the utmost pride. I have a short story I want to share with you and I sort of alluded to it in one of my DC emails. The story begins at a Filipino function in Philadelphia with my family when all of a sudden a Filipino professor from LaSalle Univ. comes up to me and asked me where I went to school. I told this professor (who appeared to be in her 40's) that I went to BU and her eyes lit up and she couldn't help but ask me if I was involved with the Filipino club. Of course I said yes. Immediately after (and I assumed she automatically knew I was a dancer since she has seen me perform with my parent's dance troupe) she asked if we won again. Confused at first I then realized she was talking about Kamayan (for all of you that are not familiar, Kamayan used to be a competition in which we won every year which is why it is not anymore). It is a weird place to end but the conversation continues on from there and the rest is history. The point I am trying to make is that you are part of something bigger than the confines of just being part FSA. I know a lot is said of pamilya but also as a part of BUFSA you present yourselves as representing your heritage here in the States and people near and far from Boston respect BUFSA for that. There is a lot of talk about who won etc. (and we all know we did) but it is not all about that or whose dances looked the best. It is about the Kamayan experience. It is about getting signed into dorms 15 mins late to practice, getting guest meals for upperclassmen, being on stick duty, listening to speeches and cry fests, and waking up ridiculously early to get to Metcalf Ballroom, meeting new and old friends who might end up being your lifelong friends you contact when you're old. Who cares if you messed up on stage (as I did in Juan's dance..sorry) but I knew I was still having fun with the people who appreciates this club as much as I do and helped make this Kamayan experience a memorable one. It is the whole experience that makes Kamayan, well, Kamayan and makes our group so special. I would like to thank all of you whole helped out in anyway to help foster the sense of pamilya embedded in our heritage and club mission statement.
This week I really struggled to find the reason why I didn't cry during Kamayan. Not because I have no emotions or that I have a cold heart, but that I was just trying to take in the newness that each Kamayan brings- meeting new friends, trying to remember the dance moves, watch the other schools tear up the dance floor, freshmen showing so much enthusiasm and passion for the club. All of this is the product of classes and classes before us passing down the tradition and passion for FSA and Kamayan. Take the newness of this experience and cherish it.

And now to my call outs:

To the class of 2012. You guys are UNBELIVABLE. You guys do not get as much credit as you deserve. You guys respect everyone in the club and are starting to get that swagger I don't see all too often. Come on, none of you complained when you were on stick duty. You guys danced your heart out and I see soo much potential in you guys. You are exactly what this club needs as you are the future and define what it means to be members of our club. This was your first Kamayan and you will remember it forever.

To the class of 2011. Yet again you continue to amaze me. You all looked hot out there and have soooooo much energy. Even though your class diminished in size, your presence has spoken louder this year than last. I hope you guys don't lose that. Keep the passion and love for BUFSA alive.

To 2010. I love you guys. Each and everyone of you have conducted yourselves with such dignity and pride needed to be leaders of a club. I see a leader in everyone of you and you do a great job in dancing as well.

To 09. Wow soo much love in the air. You guys...wow soo tight knit. Not even just here but with the other school's 09ers. Why can't all the classes be like that!!!! You guys are the foundation of our club and no matter how small your class is, you will always be the leaders of the club and will be the ones that lead our club into the future. Nobody can take that fact away. I think enough is said how this is the last of this and last of that. I however like to look at this experience as a number of firsts. This is the first time I danced in Metcalf. This Kamayan marked the first time turo-turo was early. This was the first time we had the D1 stretch. But the most important first for this Kamayan was that this was the first time I realized I am going to miss you guys so effin much.

Sorry for the length of this email. I told you this was going to be like 10 pages.

Finally 2 more shout outs.

Eboard. I am honored and distinguished to work with each and everyone of you. You all are deserving of your positions and putting on Kamayan is representative of that. You all are hard working and to be honest I am sort of jealous because you all seem like you are doing soo much more than I am. I thank you for all the support and this is just the beginning of many amazing things to come.

My Tinikling birds. I will be straightforward in saying I have never been more honored to teach a dance than this year's tinikling. You all gave your hearts out and were dedicated from the beginning to make it work. We all knew it was going to come together. Through the falls and split pants I really wish the whole club could come to practice to see the teamwork and support we gave each other. Again thanks for a memorable tinikling.

To close I don't know if any of you noticed but right before Showtime I tried to give everyone a hug and said good luck (sorry if I missed you and shame on you if you weren't in the room). Let me explain the brief background to that. Back in high school football before every game there were 2 instances when we gave each other hugs 1) instead of shaking hands during the sign of peace we gave hugs and 2) in the locker rooms the captains would walk around and give every player a hug and say good luck. From freshman through junior year when I got those hugs I knew I was ready for the game because the hug represented that the captains had trust in me that I wouldn't let him or the team down and ultimately I would give my best effort. Finally when I got the chance as a senior and last Saturday I hoped you would understand that, I too had the trust in each and every one of you that you would dance your heart out and have fun doing so.

This just in from our lovely Kamayan co-hosts, District One.. Here's what you need to know:

WHAT: KAMAYAN 2008 Afterparty
WHEN: Saturday, November 22 from 10 PM to 2 AM
WHERE: RISE Club (306 Stuart St. Boston, MA ~ within McCormick & Schmicks/Finale/Boston Park Plaza Hotel vicinity)
>>> "Hip-Hop Top 40" - be prepared to dance (more)! :D
WHO: D1 members and friends! 18+ years of age (17 w/ college ID) allowed
COST: $15/person
WHY: This is a great way for ALL KAMAYAN PARTICIPANTS to celebrate our performance and accomplishments TOGETHER, in ONE PLACE!! PLEASE encourage your dancers/members/friends to join us! Also, RISE is a "dry" club (NO alcohol on site) which accounts for the reason that 18+ (and 17 with college ID) are allowed. The benefit to this is that the underclassmen will be able to join us! Therefore, although D1 does not encourage underage drinking, individual attendees of this event are responsible for what they do on their own time, prior to and after the event.

HOW TO PURCHASE TICKETS: Please let Eboard know if you'd like to attend to we can reserve tickets and compile a list of members and friends who will be attending. There is also a Facebook event in the making so be on the look out for that. The Countdown to Kamayan 2008

Good morning BUFSA!

Within these next five days you will be eating, breathing, and sleeping Kamayan. Get pumped! This email is very content-heavy so please, bear with us.

1. Weekday Dance Schedule, 11/17-11/19.
Most of the dances are jet-set and ready to for Friday night's rehearsal but others still need just a bit more cleaning. So, per your choreographers' requests, we've set up extra weekday practices to really polish the dances.

Monday, Nov. 17th @ CAS Lobby (7-9 pm) - Tinikling
Tuesday, Nov. 18th @ Sargent Gym (7-9 pm) - When You Wanna Come, Finale, and Intro
Wednesday, Nov. 19th @ CAS Lobby (7-9 pm) - Subli, Tinikling

Please come promptly at 7 pm, regardless as to whether your dance is first or last. We are running out of time to practice, so any extra time that choreographers can use on the side is crucial.

2. Family Dinner on Wednesday, Nov. 19th @ CAS Lobby (7 pm).
Since we need as much time as possible to practice, we've decided to combine family dinner with Tinikling practice this week. Bring your dinner to the CAS Lobby at 7 pm on Wednesday so you can enjoy good food while watching your friends tackle those sticks. To people in Tinikling, let's get our food early at 6:30 pm so we can start working promptly at 7 pm.

3. Kamayan Ticket Sales, Monday-Friday @ GSU Link (10-4 pm).
Stop by our table at the GSU Link to pick up your tickets. $7 presale and reserve; $10 at the door.

4. The Night-Before-Kamayan Practice - Friday, Nov. 21st @ SAO 3rd Floor Dance Studio (6 pm - 2 am).*
Although the day itself is what we've been looking forward to these past five weeks, the all-nighter practice before Kamayan is the second high point is just as important. Not only is it the last chance we have to perfect each dance and do run-throughs of the entire set, but it is also the night all of the club gets the chance to hang out with one another, check out everybody's dance moves, and really get hyped about Kamayan together. We all want to look amazing on Saturday so it is mandatory that everybody attends this last practice. Please feel free to bring dinner with you. Be prepared for the long haul; it's going to be a full but awesome night. =)

5. Kamayan through the Generations.
Per tradition, Carlo is assembling a Kamayan montage video to showcase during Friday night's rehearsal. If you have any video footage or pictres of past and recent Kamayan performances and dance practices, please pass them along to him.

6. BUFSA's Kamayan Poster Board.
Emmeline is in charge of the poster board that will be displayed alongside other schools' poster boards on the day of Kamayan. Her concept requires everybody to bring in an approximately 2x2" color print-out of yourself (and any other pictures you'd like to contribute). She will be bringing the poster board to every practice so if you have art supplies (glitter, glue, construction paper, etc.) bring those as well to help decorate. Let's make ours the best one!

7. Kamayan Costumes.
Just in case you didn't get the chance to attend family dinner last Wednesday, we revealed the costume scheme for Kamayan 2008, a predominantly black outfit with a specific color accent (the Filipino flag colors) according to class:

Seniors and Juniors - Black with Red Accents
Sophomores - Black with Yellow Accents
Freshmen - Black with Blue Accents

8. Dancer Dues = $10.
In order to perform at Kamayan, you must submit your dancer dues to your dance coords by Friday night's rehearsal.

Okay! That's a lot of information to digest, but don't stress, Kamayan weekend is the most exciting weekend of the entire year. You'll get the opportunity to meet new people from other schools, get to know your peers even more, and show off all your hard work to a crowd of over six hundred friends, family, and Filipino enthusiasts. We are so proud of everybody and are honored to be able to perform alongside you guys on Saturday. So stay warm, rest up, keep your muscles loose, and get ready for a weekend to remember.

Veteran's Day: Kamayan-Style!

Hey FSA Peeps,

Since Tuesday is Veteran's Day (no classes!) some of the Kamayan choreographers would like to take this time to finish teaching and really polish their choreography so we will be prepared to do run-throughs next weekend. Tuesday's schedule will be as follows:

Tuesday, Nov. 11th @ Shelton Hall (12-5 pm)
Tinikling (12-1 pm)
When You Wanna Come (1-2 pm)
Just Dance (2-3 pm)
Senior Dance (3-4 pm)
Intro (4-5 pm)

It's the room to the left of the entrance hall with the couches and flatscreen tv. You don't have to swipe in so off-campus-ers, breathe easy.

Small Assignment: In between these practices, we'll be decking out a three-fold poster board BUFSA-style that will be showcased alongside the other schools' poster boards at Kamayan so people will get a feel of who were are and what we do. Please feel free to stop by (even if you're not in these dances or clapping for them) and help us decorate! Bring art supplies - scissors, markers, glitter, colored paper, watercolors, tape, glue, etc. - pictures and memorabilia that you would like to contribute to the club's poster board.

Also, please know that we really appreciate you taking time during your day off to come to practice. We are all very proud of your hard work and we love the enthusiasm you continue to bring to practice to each and every week. You guys are the ones that make this club that much more special and we cannot wait to perform with you at Kamayan =)

FIND Dialogue – Nov. 14-16 – Rutgers University, NJ

BUFSA is a part of FIND: the Filipino Intercollegiate Networking Dialogue. Their purpose is to promote unity and cooperation among Filipino students from different parts of the country. This year, FIND Dialogue (a conference in where the different districts get together) will be held at Rutgers University. * FIND happens to fall a week before Kamayan, so for those who are interested in going however are not completely sure about their dancing, please take dancing more into consideration.

KAMAYAN- 17 days away!!!

Folks, I think it's appropriate to say we are in crunch time. The time is ticking and we have a long way to go. Dance practices have gone smooth to date but we are a LONG way to go to what we want to accomplish and to how we want to perform come that Sunday in 2.5 weeks. Dance attendance is MANDATORY from now on as we are putting together the final program and choreographers are finalizing formations. By this weekend we want to be able to run through the whole program with clapping (for dances that need them). IF by any chance you must miss practice, please call or shoot an email to the choreographer AND to one of your DCs BEFORE the assigned practice time. The DCs and choreographers do not want to be looking for you during practice. Kamayan is FSAs first chance to showcase what we have to the rest of the Filipino community in the greater Boston area. It is an opportunity to dance with some of your close friends or even friends you just met this semester. Without the complete cooperation from you guys, there is no way FSA gains the reputation it already has. People come near and far to see FSA perform. They know of our club by the amazing dances we showcase. For those who have performed in Kamayan before, make this performance better than the last. For those in which this is your first Kamayan, this is your first chance to rip the stage as a member of FSA. We all here in FSA have welcomed you with open arms and know you will kill it with us. Make memories this Kamayan as once again we'll show all the other schools in D1 what we got. Again, without the practice we won't get to the point where we want to be. PLEASE make it out to practices and ON TIME!!

ENCLOSED is this week's dance schedule as well as the list of CLAPPERS for each dance. It is the clapper's duty to go to the assigned practice and clap the tinikling sticks as the dancers dance through them. Your DC's have specially assigned you to these dances so PLEASE, it is essential you go to these practices this week. Questions, email your DC's (Ausanto@bu.edu) or (r1vera26@bu.edu).

REMINDER: STICK DUTY; PLEASE ARRIVE AT SAO GYM 30 MINS PRIOR TO THE FIRST PRACTICE OF THE DAY. If you are unsure of what you are supposed to do or get lost, call (610)-416-2713. As stick duty you are responsible for getting the sticks to Rich Hall by practices. This is an essential aspect in practice because most dances need them. Without sticks, we cannot finish the dances and the clappers cannot practice clapping.

Dancer Dues- As a performer in Kamayan, it is required that each dancer pay $10 towards your performance. DCs will be collecting money at each practice.

First of all, thanks for you all who came out to the 2^nd gen. meeting and enjoyed the delicioso halo-halo whilst getting your costume on. Secondly, a shout out to all you Phillies fans in their World Championship. It's because of the fans, that dreams really do come true….

We are now officially halfway there! Last weekend's practice was nothing short of amaaazing and we promise you it'll just keep getting better. Oh yeah! Please keep in mind that Kamayan is in three weeks (ahhhh!) so let's keeping doing a great job of getting to practice on time so we can keep polishing the dances and make sure our choreographers get the full hour they need. Halo-Halo at cha boy!

This Friday, Oct. 31 is Halloween! But more importantly it is BUFSA's 2nd General Meeting: Halo-Haloween from 7-9PM at 1019 Commonwealth! Break out your costumes and we'll break out everyone's favorite halo-halo (traditional filipino dessert)! But also we will be having our Fear Factor Contest of FEAR! So get ready to see your fellow FSA duke it out and eat it out! (At the same time? Maybe!)

Dance dance revolution!

For everyone that came out this weekend yea yea yea yea! The dances look great, as great as... Alexander the Great...We will be having practices every weekend so keep and eye out for an email from your dance coordinators! And remember practice, practice, practice! Practice in the shower, when you wait for the elevator, in the elevator because practice makes perfect!

We are the champions! No time for losers!

Thats right no time for losing because its coming down to the wire for our favorite Little Brown Filipino Warriors intramural teams. The last volleyball is this Wednesdat at 8:00PM at Fitrec, so lets go and cheer them on as they are number one in their league! And the time is now for our flag football team as we play our last game this Thursday at 730PM at Nickerson Field. So lets get our game faces on

Broadway's dark tonight!

Fernando Limbo, fellow 2012 and FSA member has a show for BU on Broadway coming up next saturday night! the show is called, You Can't Stop the Beat: 50 Years of Broadway. tickets are $7 for BU students and the show will be from 8-9pm in jacob sleeper auditorium on satuday, november 1st. We're going to try to get some people to go out and show support! Woop for familySA!

First, a big thanks to you all who came out to last weeks practices and also to Wednesday's family dinner at the Atrium. Both events were fantastic and hope to see all your faces again. As for this week, we again will be having practice (as we will be every weekend until showtime November 22nd, so mark your calendars!). Again, Please be prompt arriving to practices and give your utmost attention to your choreographers and tear it up on the floor.

*An integral part in the construction of our modern set is to make sure the tinikling (bamboo) sticks are at the practices that need them. So with that said, this weekend we'll only need the tinikling sticks for Tinikling (Sunday at 1pm). So every weekend we'll be assigning people to gather the sticks and bring them to practice in a timely manner*
